KeyTweak Web Page
The goal of this program is to make remapping keys easy and manageable. I have used this. It is simple and easy to use.
Recommend it for the Utility collection. thumbup2.gif

KeyTweak is a simple utility that allows users to redefine their keyboard input
signals. The functionality is made possible by a new registry value introduced by
Microsoft in Windows 2000 and included in Windows XP. This section lists some of
KeyTweak’s features and reasons you may want to use KeyTweak.

Maybe you have an IBM Thinkpad and you really miss having a Windows Logo key. Maybe you are used to
using a different keyboard and you keep hitting the wrong key. Maybe you know that
you are going to be doing a lot of numerical data entry and would like to change your
Num Pad + key into a Tab key for a little while. How about changing Scroll Lock into a
Mute button? There are lots of reasons for why you might remap your keyboard.

System Requirements
Supports Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP. The keyboard
layout used in the interface is based upon a U.S. 104-key keyboard and does not support
remapping keys outside of this key set (with the exception of certain Specialty Keys).
Technically, you also need VB6 Runtime DLLs, but since they are distributed with
Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you can forget that I mentioned it.

To uninstall, simply run the uninstall.exe file that is
located in the same directory as KeyTweak.exe – or just use the shortcut from your Start
Menu.

Features
! Simple interface
! Ability to Teach remapping by pressing the keys to be remapped
! Easy-to-read lists of all current and pending re-mappings
! Implementation of Specialty Keys support for certain keyboards
! Remove all re-mappings with a single button
! Enable/disable annoying keys
! Displays what exactly is written to the “Scancode Map” registry value and how to
interpret its binary data
! User warnings help ensure Ctrl-Alt-Delete sequence is maintained

I have a spare HDD full of movies plus their ISO files. With this little beauty I can now play the ISO files on a virtual CD/DVD player so am able to delete mega GBs of movies but still watch and burn as needed. Seems to work like a dream but it is recommended that you uncheck the toolbar box when installing.

Hey Rob,

I used to have this one too, but havent installed it in about a year or so. Does it still "offer" WhenU with it? Or did they change to just a Toolbar now?
WhenU is adware and shouldnt be installed.

Cheers,

Johannes

-edit- seems we are talking bout the same thing: http://www.whenu.com/products/searchbar/mi...Tools/eula.html

Hi Johannes

FileHippo just recommended that you not install the adware toolbar so I imagine we are talking about the same thing.
The virtual CD/DVD player automatically mounts as Drive (L) on my setup, so with the external storage ® and encrypted Volume (T), am rapidly running out of the alphabet. LOL

Cheers

Hey Turnips.

CCleaner is not included in the list due to what is written in post #4

QUOTE
Registry cleaners are not included in this list due to the fact that, in the hands of inexperienced users, they could cause irreparable damage to the Operating System, and render their computer inoperable.
So to be on the safe side, they aren't included in the list.
If you feel you have the need for a registry cleaner, inquire in the forums, and someone will direct you to one.
Please do not recommend any registry cleaners for inclusion into this list.

Any registry cleaning programs that are posted as suggestions, will be removed from this topic, without any explanation!!

CCleaner includes the possibility of "cleaning" the registry, thus will not be listed in this topic.

Thanks for your understanding.

YoHi

Double Driver seems dead for now. Major Geeks hosts a mirror here

Driver Max - checks if there are updates available for your drivers. Its still under development and plans to offer downloads of newest drivers (or re-directs) soon. Tried it and is nice in conjunction with some of the driver download sites (I use driver guide).

VSO Image Resizer - offers various "profiles", manual resize, several file formats and plenty more. Neat programme if you have to resize pics as often as I do (for website and here).

PhotoScape - Powerful, yet simple to use alternative to Picassa and the like...

ForceVision - If you are just after a picture viewer, then this might also be of interest to you. Slim and easy to use.

MP3Gain - have you got music on your pc that has different volume levels and hate it when you listen to your mp3s and have to turn volume up or down? look no further...

MusicBrainz - If you use your pc to record music via the Internet and are left behind to name the files yourself, or have files with weird shuffling of different kinds of tags from different tools used previously, this tool helps you to read the proper tags or to retrieve them from a database.

Send To Toys -my favourite out of the latest tryouts here. Its a nice tool to "manipulate" your send-to folder and lets you assign folders and other things to send files to.

Free Download Manager - Since I'm on slow dialup, a download manager is essential to me. For the past 6 weeks or so I've been using this one, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. It has lots of useful and versatile features. Also, it's not just free, it's open source.

QUOTE
System requirements:
In order to use FDM, you must have one of the following operating systems installed on your computer:

Microsoft Windows 9x/ME/2000/2003/XP/Vista (32bit versions only)

I used to use the free Fresh Devices download manager, but since I currently use a Yahoo address, I can't get the miserable key needed to open the program. This Free Download Manager is just as good, if not better, IMHO.

I recently installed Comodo AntiVirus to see what it's like. So far it looks pretty good.

From their blurb:

QUOTE
* Detects and eliminates viruses from desktops and networks
* Constantly protects with real-time On Access scanning
* Proactive Heuristic analysis intercepts unknown threats
* Host Intrusion Detection blocks malware before it can run
* Daily, automatic updates of virus definitions
* Simple to use: install and forget
