For years, I have been looking for a utility which can tell me the bandwidth usage for my computers. It was no trouble getting a total thru the wireless modem router but, with 6 computers used by 4 neighbours all going thru my account, it was impossible to tell who was using what. This little app appears to do the job nicely. Installed on each machine, it gives an hourly, weekly and monthly total thru that machine - exactly what I needed.
I have been using it for a few days now and it's looking good. BITMETER II. (Win2000/XP/Vista) http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,...ml?tk=nl_ddxdwn This post has been edited by rowal5555: Sep 12 2007, 11:02 PM -------------------- |

So cool. You never think about the little things that make life so easy. From the company that provides Kill Disk they also offer ISO-Burn. It will run from an .exe (executable) on the desktop. Ever tried to explain how to burn an ISO image to a novice? No problem any more. Small enough to even be downloaded fast over a dialup connection (644 kb). Only has two fields to fill in. If you only have one burner then you only have to fill in the source field (The place where the .iso file is).
Very clean, small and sweet. I like it. Active@ ISO Burner (Freeware) -------------------- "2007 & 2008 Windows Shell/User Award" |

In troubleshooting problems it's got an integrated bustrace filter load order tool and cleaner, the author found that helped a lot

Well here comes the silly german again. Via a rss feed, I stumbled over a list like this with heaps of tools I cannot recall having seen here.
Being nosy, I installed some and woops there you go the first find comes in handy... 1 ) Revo Uninstaller - ever come across tools that dont offer an uninstaller or leave folders behind? well I do all the time because I test what I get between my fingers Available Platforms: 2000/XP/2003/Vista 2 ) MultiInstaller - need to install the same software on several pcs and cant be bothered to download them over and over again? Here s a tool that lets you create sort of a install cd. All you have to do once you did the setups and burnt the cd, click go.exe and you ll find yourself with a install cd. Skinnable and more... 3 ) Snarfer - I love my GreatNews rss reader, but it is still beta and crashes on me from time to time. Snarfer looks more less the same and offers about the same flexibility. If you are looking for a neat and easy to use rss reader, this is a good alternative. 4 ) Windows SteadyState - I dont have kids or more than myself as users at home, but if you are a parent this might be a neat "pain" and time saver. Its even a freeware tool by Microsoft Well thats it for me. But there is heaps more here: http://forum.cybernetnews.com/index.php/topic,7.0.html- Hth. It is interesting how these programs come in waves. Here is another one I have been test driving. It works very well for you URL Icons and Desktop Icons. It is limited to 48 x 48 dpi but it is still effeortless to use.

Some more neat Microsoft tools that are a bit harder to find and I was guided to by one of the pc mags I read once in a while:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 Deployment Tools - Download the latest deployment tools for help installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) on multiple computers. This file contains updates to the deployment tools and documentation. ZoomIt v.1.71 - ZoomIt is screen zoom and annotation tool for technical presentations that include application demonstrations. ZoomIt runs unobtrusively in the tray and activates with customizable hotkeys to zoom in on an area of the screen, move around while zoomed, and draw on the zoomed image. I wrote ZoomIt to fit my specific needs and use it in all my presentations. ZoomIt works on all versions of Windows and you can use pen input for ZoomIt drawing on tablet PCs. Virtual Desktop PowerToy - Manage up to four desktops from the Windows taskbar with this PowerToy. -------------------- - "How did I get infected?" - "Safe-hex" - Member of UNITE - - The HJT forum is very busy. I was browsing through the list of "Freeware Replacements for Common Commercial Apps" and I did not see anything about "Advanced Windows Care V2 Personal" or "Iobit Smart Defrag". These 2 apps are both free and are offered by Iobit at www.Iobit.com". "Advanced Windows Care" offers a 1-click approach to "protect, optimize, and repair your computer" while "Iobit Smart Defrag" is a free HD defrag app that will manually defrag AND "automatically work in the backgropund to keep your hard disk running at maximum speed".
I am SURE that someone in this community has heard of these apps and even tried them or uses them so I am wondering why they are not on the list. Am I missing something that I should know about them????? Are they known to cause problems or just not work well??? Please advise!!??!! trumpetman51 (John) -------------------- "The right direction's all that counts and there's no way for me to get there late!!"

GAIM is no more. They have decided to rename it to Pidgin. Pidgin homepage. So the old link no longer works.

trumpetman51,
The reason they're not on the list, is because no one has recommended them before. This list is made up entirely, of programs recommended by our members. The requirements for submitting suggestions, can be found in post #4: Requirements BlackSpyder, Thanks for the update. The name, and link, have been fixed, to reflect the change. Wildabeast, Thanks for the heads-up on PhotoFiltre. It has been removed from the list. -------------------- I love being married.
