I have tried everything I can think of.

A lap top using the same connection works fine but my pc is slow.

It is not the modem. (I have had 2 new ones)
It is not the router. (problem persisits if I bypass router and wire straight to ethernet)
It is not the browser. (I have tried a different one)
It is not a virus or malware. ( a really patient expert on here has verified it is clean in another thread)
I have removed unecessary toolbars.
I have tried a new ethernet cable.
I completely removed Norton, but it made no difference.

But still my pc internet speed is extremely slow compared to the laptop.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks

Your firewall could be slowing down your internet speed.

Check your speeds via http://www.speedtest.net

My speed readings are rubbish:
0.67 Mb/s download
0.69 Mb/s upload
10 ms PING

The speeds are no better without the firewall.

What is your ISP advertised speed?
See, if you'll get same numbers at Speedtest site, if you run your computer from Safe Mode with Networking.

Ran the speed tests again.
Normal mode: 1.02Mb/s download
0.69Mb/s upload
11 ping

safe mode with networking: 2.25Mb/s
0.79Mb/s
11 ping

So slightly better but the advertised speed is upto 20Mb/s and the lap top was around 15Mb/s when tested.

Go Start>Run ("Start search" in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

At Command Prompt, paste this:
ipconfig /all>c:\ipconfig_all.txt&notepad c:\ipconfig_all.txt&exit
Hit Enter.

Copy and paste what you see in Notepad into a Reply here.

I wished you would post the images then just the numbers. Knowing who your ISP is and how far you are away from the test servers is very critical. Please provide the links to the images when doing the speed tests.

I don't want to sound ungrateful because I really do appreciate you trying to help. But I'm not sure what I'm doing now. Not sure how to get the images of the speed tests or whether it's safe to show all that comes up in the log from the run>cmd
Not even sure if what I have written makes sense!
Sorry.

Go to http://www.speedtest.net/

Run the test like you were doing, and when it gets done it'll popup telling you your speed, ping, server location, etc. At the bottom of that picture there's a "Copy Forum Link". Click that, come to a reply here and paste it (right click -> paste or use ctrl+v) into a reply.

Edit: Also, posting the contents of ipconifg /all is safe. Its not any personal information. If you're directly connected, it may give a WAN IP but just replace the last series of numbers with X. it'll be labeled as "IPv4 Address". Make sure you atleast leave the first 3 parts.

For example if its 192.168.2.2, post 192.168.2.X.

And even if your IP was posted, very little (next to nothing) could be done with it.

Post back the ipconfig as requested by Broni. Also post back the contents of this:

tracert www.google.com>c:\pinggoogle.txt&notepad c:\pinggoogle.txt

^Credit to Broni because I did copy/paste and modified instead of having to verify it worked.

I suspect, you may have bad ethernet card.
Try to reinstall network card driver and if that doesn't help, I'd spend 15 bucks for new card.
