Help
I'm having a problem on a Windows XP machine currently running Service Pack 3. My problem is this: when I try to boot, it goes through its normal process of showing a blue background with an HP logo, then gets to the black background with a windows logo and a loading bar in the center of the screen. The loading bar gets to about half-way filled then a brief BSOD screen flashes, the computer crashes, and tries rebooting itself.
After the reboot, I am then given the option to boot into safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, safe mode w/ command, and boot normally.
If I try to boot normally, the above process happens again and eventually I'm back at the option of which mode to boot into.
If I boot into safe mode the machine gets to the desktop fine and I am able to run programs. However a problem still remains, which is that I have no internet access.
Here's where my personal confusion comes in. I've tried running Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials, and SUPERAntispyware, along with HijackThis, Combofix, and CleanUP. Now, I'm no expert at HJT, but I've looked at my fair share of logs and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
So I'm confused as to what is causing the problem of these endless reboots; at first I thought it was a virus of some sort, but now I'm possibly leaning away from that...
Anyhow let me know what first steps I should take, and if I need to post any logs let me know and I can try to get them out tomorrow sometime.

*Edit* I also cannot run a chkdsk because (if I schedule a chkdsk on next restart) the crash happens before the chkdsk even gets a chance to run.
