I'm new to this site and may leave out information, so please let me know what I need to include. I appreciate your help.

Four days ago I noticed a lot of "undeliverable" e-mails suddenly being sent to my spam folder and Inbox in Yahoo Mail. I have a paid account with Yahoo Mail. I immediately thought my Yahoo Contact list had been compromised, and that is what happened. All my contacts received a link to a site that wants to sell Viagra. Very embarrassing.
I immediately changed my password and logged off and back on to Yahoo Mail. I haven't seen a problem since. But how do I know I don't have some trojan or worm in my computer? I still may be at risk.

Here are my questions that linger:
* Does this mean they got my password?
* Or could I have opened some spam message and started some trojan or worm? I check my spam folder daily and never have more than about 12 spams in my spam folder at any one time. Sometimes I open a spam message if I think it may be from a friend or a company I deal with, but I never click any links in the message or open any attachments.
* How do I prevent this from happening again?

Here is what I'd like to do: How do I check my computer so that I can be sure I don't have some trojan or worm? I assume it would include running ComboFix or something similar, but I will wait for instructions before I do anything at all. Thank you.

And welcome to BleepingComputer.com, before we can assist you with your question of: Am I infected? You will need to perform the following tasks and post the logs of each if you can.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.

Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide.
When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Then click Finish.

MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

On the Scanner tab:

Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
Then click on the Scan button.
If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.

Back at the main Scanner screen:

Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
Exit MBAM when done.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

SUPERAntiSpyware:

- Close browsers before scanning.
- Scan for tracking cookies.
- Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen and exit the program.
Do not run a scan just yet.

Reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Scan with SUPERAntiSpyware as follows:

Launch the program and back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan and click "Next".
After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes" and reboot normally.
To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
- Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
- Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
- If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
- Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
Click Close to exit the program.

If you have a problem downloading, installing or getting SAS to run, try downloading and using the SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner instead. Save the randomly named file (i.e. SAS_1710895.COM) to a usb drive or CD and transfer to the infected computer. Then double-click on it to launch and scan. The file is randomly named to help keep malware from blocking the scanner.

GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic Full Scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

-- If you encounter any problems, try running GMER in safe mode.
-- If GMER crashes or keeps resulting in a BSODs, uncheck Devices on the right side before scanning.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

That was fast! I had just asked if my question had been overlooked, and I quickly received an answer saying someone would look at this. And now you are on this already! Thank you!

I will start with your instructions immediately. Tomorrow I have to go out of town for a few days, so I may have a short delay in completing all your instructions.

UPDATE: 12/2/2010 2:40pm CST: I have downloaded and installed Malwarebytes according to your instructions, and am running Full Scan.

IMPORTANT: I forgot to mention that I ran AdAware earlier this week since I didn't know if I was going to get someone to help me. AdAware claimed to find "Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT" malware, and it quarantined it. I read that AdAware gets false positives, so I don't know if it found a real problem. My system still delays (Firefox can take several seconds or more to change tabs, for example).

Well, this is weird - I can't boot into Safe Mode! I held down F8 and I also tried pressing it over and over. I can get into Setup (F2) but can't get the options to choose Safe Mode. I looked in my laptop manual (Dell) and it confirmed I'm to use F8 to boot to Safe Mode. If I hold down the F8 key for even several minutes, the boot process stops at the Dell startup splash screen (just after POST). When I finally let go of F8, it boots to Windows. I'm going to continue to find a way to boot to Safe Mode - I can't believe I can't do it.

I was able to find some logs from AdAware. I opened "runningScanLog.log" which is shown below. It appears to me that AdAware falsely identified a program (Password Unlocker) I had downloaded quite a while ago as the Trojan. I never used this password unlocker since I didn't need it like I thought I would.
AdAware made another log file which is larger, but doesn't look like it has anything helpful. It is too large for these reply boxes, and I guess I can't attach files to this post.

Hello the SUPER and GMER logs will be handy.
For the Safe mode issue. Install the Super (SAS) program. Try this fix ,then scan.

SUPERAntiSypware has a built in "Repairs" feature to fix policy restrictions and certain Windows settings which are sometimes targeted by malware infection. To use this feature, launch SUPERAntiSypware.

Click the Preferences button.
Click the Repairs tab.
Click on (highlight) "Repair broken SafeBoot key" and then click the Repair button.
You may be asked to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect.

Did you install
Internet Explorer Password Unlocker.exe or
Windows Password Unlocker

Thank you boopme, but I think I'm only supposed to be working with Cryptodan. Maybe someone can confirm or straighten me out on this.

boopme, I did look at SAS like you said. I see a "Repairs" tab, but no option to repair Safe Mode.

I also never did install Password Unlocker.

LOL, I never looked at the password unlocker as a hacking tool, but I guess it is. I was trying to recover my own password on a pdf document, but I never installed Password Unlocker. I'll quit using tools like that then.

I still haven't solved the Safe Mode issue.

Please excuse me being thick-headed, Cryptodan, but what password are you referring to? I never did recover the password to the pdf document, but I found an earlier copy that was not password protected, so all is well with the pdf issue. Regarding my Yahoo mail account, I have not changed the password on a known protected computer, I changed it using this computer that I use all the time.

I have not changed the Yahoo password on a known protected computer, I changed it using this computer that I use all the time. I may take a while to get access to a known safe computer.

The SuperAntiSpyware log is quite large. Do you still want me to put it in a post? Is there a way to attach it as a file to this thread?

I'll have to be away from the computer a lot today and over the weekend. Please don't let my delays to your answers make you think I am not completely engaged in this issue. Your generous help is very much appreciated!

First thing that should be done is to download linux live CD from here ubuntu linux and run it from the CD to change your yahoo password along with any others as well.

Go ahead and post the log.
