So, I have a semi-working, soon to die SATA laptop internal hard drive on a laptop. I can still access the drive externally and see all the information on the drive (320gig) I'm replacing it with another SATA internal laptop 320gig HDD. Is there a way by using a 2nd (working) PC to extract the files/windows/image from the one dieing drive and clone them/it to the new drive without going through the hassle of ordering restore CDs?

And what kind of Software/Magic Wand would I use for such a task? I have a Windows XP machine at work, I'm trying to clone a windows Vista drive onto a blank drive that I could then simply slide back into the laptop and have it working again. I have 2 sets of USB-SATA/IDE cables and 2 sets of power cords so I could technically plug both in at the same time and do the brain xeroxing .... I'm sure I could even summon up a maniacal evil laugh and go "ITS ALIVE!! ALLLLIIIIIVVVVEEE!!!"

If all you need is a program...I'd use EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition freeware. - http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Please read all instructions before using.
