BleepingComputer.com: McAfee effectiveness against Malware

Hi, just wondering what folks' experience has been with using McAfee to remove Malware vs. MBAM? It seems that neither one catches everything, even with the latest DATs. Any suggestions as to which is generally better? And, is there a way to catch a problem before it gets onto my computer (e.g., can the file be scanned/cleaned during the download process itself)? I thought that's what's supposed to be the case but apparently not, as I got infected recently. Sorry for my inexperience, I'm not a tech-savvy guru like many of you!
