I am running XP on an older pc. My monitor died and the only new one I could find was a wide screen. As expected, images are distorted. What are my options?

Hi Fraklit, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

It would help if you would post the make and model of this computer and monitor.

What version of XP do you have, Home or Pro.?

What service pack do you have?

I bought the self same monitor, all I did was change the display settings to 1920 X 1080. I hope that may be of help to you.

Phil, thanks for the input. I made the change as you suggested and there is some improvement. However, the monitor still elongates images.

It can't hurt to try a few others, also did you load the software that came with the monitor?

Are you sure the resolution has taken at 1920x1080? That is the native resolution of the monitor, so with that resolution set, there should be no distortion of the aspect ratio of an image. If the display settings definitely show 1920x1080 resolution but the image is still stretched, circles aren't round etc, do you have reasonably current drivers installed for the video card?

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...

Platypus was correct. The change had not taken. I made the correction and all is good!

Thanks to all for your inputs.
