hi there,
on behalf of friend operating win2000 pro who has been having problems since removing AVG can anybody suggest why she can receive incoming mail but on trying to send out new message is now told there is not enough memoryto open when in OE. The only reason AVG was removed was because it would not update and we were told we had a corrupt download.Uninstall was succesful and replaced by a2. Also running sygate personal firewall, spybot adaware.
we had probs accessing account at first but then checked servers and was fine. Any suggestions please? any help appreciated. :flowers:

A squared is not an acceptable replacement for AVG as it is a trojan specific scanner. Why not reinstall AVG Free? That may cure your problem also.

Another way to resolve this may be by using Ccleaner. Clean out the temp files and then try OE again. If that doesn't work go to the Issues tab in Ccleaner and fix only those issues identified as having to do with AVG.

How do you know that?

hi leurgy,

this is a message which popped up when attempting to download and update avg. as i remember it said avg could have been a corrupt install as would not accept download. then when attempting to uninstall and reinstall could only go so far with installation would then get error message. Another major prob (not sure if should start new topic or not) is that there are no progs at all listed in add/remove of control panel how can i check it has uninstalled completely or for that matter get the list of progs that should are there to show?

I think you are looking at two seperate problems here. Did you run Ccleaner? If that doesn't fix the email problem it may be a sympton of bad ram which fits with the problem installing AVG. You could try running MemTest - RAM reliability tester to check the ram. How much hard drive space is unused?

Hi leurgy, cannot access that link.comp just stays on open page. is there any other way to access this info. Am comp newbie so appreciate your patience.

Serious question hope doesnt sound silly but If RAM is the prob will a complete reinstall of operating system be quickest way to get comp working well again.

Now cannot download from ie. Tools not working cannot use cut paste etc.

Yes i did cclean with 1.26. Also tried to reinstall AVG but simply would not install

No. BTW that doesn't sound silly at all.

Ram is Random Access Memory. So when you boot Windows loads into Ram with a little help from your swap file. Your operating system is on your hard drive.

If you can't get that link.................. Spyware?

Hi Leurgy, thanks for your support and help, now friend has bought new comp. However do know that old comp had accepted xp pro prior to removal.
May never know now what prob really was. Nevertheless thanks for your advice anyway!!!! :flowers:
