I seem to be banging my head against a brick wall here... I'm not able to access one of my favourite sites due to an alleged DNS error, when I know the site is up and running perfectly OK.

It has been 3 days now... the only thing that has changed at my end is I'm using a different ISP for my net access.

Now, I've done the following:

1) Contacted the site's administrator (it is a forum btw), and he has rebooted their DNS server.

2) Added the domain to my hosts file.

3) Followed all the suggestions here:

http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/dns_cache.htm

4) Followed the tutorial on this site.

And still I'm not able to access the site in question... so does anyone have any more suggestions?

Could you describe you LAN . Are you using a router, what kind and were you using it with the other ISP. What was you previous ISP, dialup cable DSL? Do you have static or dynamic IP address?

It's a stand alone PC, was on ADSL, back on dial-up - dynamic IP - (tho hopefully for not too long).

To start with I would get a router. They simplify your connection by monitoring and adjusting to the changes. It is also a layer of protection. A router manages internal IP addresses not normally accessed by the internet.
Ask your ISP for the DNS IP and try manually inserting them. Here is a link to a free DDNS service. You can try thier DNS IPs to see if that is your problem.

Yeah thanks for that... I've got round the problem by going via a proxy server.

And I'm changing my ISP again... thanks for your suggestions tho.

Painful to go back to dialup after HSI. I have cable, 768kbs/4mps. Been on HSI since '98.
