On Wednesday the 10th, I got the anti-virus suite pop up for a second time in my life. I ran my rkill, it detected malware, and said it had ended the process. I ran Anti-Malware Bytes software and it detected about 24 infected files. They were removed. Soon after, I tried to open Internet Explorer. The screen would go black, and show my desktop again without anything open. The only way that I was able to open anything, was to click start then click run and type in for what I wanted to open. This worked for awhile. I opened rkill again, it ended a couple processes. I then ran Anti-Malware Bytes program again, and it detected a couple more. Then, a bunch of pop ups showed up that said something to the effect that my C: was out of memory. One also said that there was a fatal error. My computer monitor then went completely black. I then restarted the computer, it looked as if it was starting up, and then after about 15 seconds, the screen went black. I tried restarting it in Safe Mode and suffered the same effects. Please help, I have 5 years worth of College homework as well as music files. Thanks.

Hello, do you have a windows CD/DVD at hand? What version of windows are you running?

At what point does the screen go black? Do you still see the Windows splash screen?

I do not have the CD/DVD, what is the windows splash screen? I start the computer up, and it goes to the windows xp loading screen then black.

When attempting to boot in safe mode, what is the last driver you see on the screen before it goes black?

I appreciate the help, but my computer was just ruined because my basement flooded after a series of strong rain storms in Kansas. Again, thanks

Ouch, that sounds bad. I hope you can still salvage some components and that no further serious damage was caused.

I am going to open it up and try and pull out the hard drive to salvage 5 years of college course work.
