BleepingComputer.com: ATI vs Nvidia

Ok, since I see a LOT of people using ATI cards rather than Nvidia, what's the difference? I've been an Nvidia user since I bought my very first pc. I haven't tried ATI cards but most of the foreigners prefer this over nvidia.@.@ Guys, can you give me some light as to why this is?@.@

ATi v. Nvidia is about the same as AMD v. Intel or Ford v. Chevy. Why do people like ATi's more now? Who knows the dynamic changes almost yearly it seems.

For the linux crowd right now ATi is offering better Open Source drivers and support (not to say that nVidia is compleatly ignoring us, just ATi's are better). In my opinion it has alot to do with AMD buying ATi (which will cease to be called ATi in 2011 and be called AMD, if I remember correctly) and using it as the default Onboard graphics for almost all AMD processor boards and since Intel has it's own Onboard graphics it leaves nVidia with very few places to grab a market hold.

I'm willing to bet that ones generalized location does not readily effect ones Graphics Card Preferences (unless there is a local brand, ie they live next to the factory)

I have used both with great success. I currently run a Geforce 9800Gt since I no longer game It boils down to performance per dollar for me. Tomshardware.com regularly reviews Graphics cards

Apples to Apples they are the same, although someone did mention AMD buying out ATI, which may change the landscape of graphics cards. I have used both and it is mainly personal preference, and like Black said, it's just like AMD v. Intel, they both create excellent products, but it is completely personal preference as to which is better. Me? I'm a ATI guy more or less because I like AMD processors.

Hey swordie, hate to break this to you-AMD bought out ATI like years ago, if I recall ATI was owned by AMD since the 2xxx series. The only thing new now is rumor has it theyre doing away with the ATI brand name and just calling them AMD cards. Both brands have their ups and downs-from my personal testing between comparible cards, NVIDIA usually has slightly better framerates and ATI slightly better image quality, but neither one drastically over the other-right now the only thing in my mind that sets NVIDIA apart from ATI is the 3d vision that NVIDIA has, that is downright awesome and it sucks ATI hasnt come out with anything like that. However, that being said, Im still a die hard ATI boy have ATI cards in all my builds and have had for ages.
