Okay guys, here's my dilemma:
I've got a Sony Vaio PCG-7162L that was loaded with Windows Vista. I elected to downgrade back to XP pro. After inserting my XP Pro disc and the loading of the initial files I received the dreaded "Windows has detected a problem and has shut down..." blue screen of death. I proceeded to jump through all of the proverbial hoops: ran a check disk, looked for viruses, etc, etc. Nothing. I then used KillDisk to completely strip all information off the hard drive and then tried to install XP again. Same error.
Any ideas?
Thanks

What's the source of the XP disk?
Is it clean?
Did you run the appropriate hard drive diagnostic...before attempting an install?

The XP disc is legit.
What hard drive diagnostic would you recommend? I've preformed this procedure several times and have never encountered this error.

The hard drive diagnostic...should be available at the website of the hard drive manufacturer.
If a long and a short diagnostic are available on the created .iso...run the long test.
You can physically look at the drive to see the manufacturer/model info.

Also, I did a write 0's to the drive in order to completely start over. I'm not sure of a way to go about diagnosing the drive. I also replaced the drive and got the exact same error code. I'm at a loss here.
