Hey guys, I've been receiving Windows Update errors since late October....
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium with service pack 2 installed.
I have contacted Microsoft support, but they take FOREVER to reply and my issue still hasn't been fixed. They had me run all the related Microsoft "fixit" tools, they finished successfully, but did not solve this. I've also tried manually installing the updates with a clean boot.
I suspect the problem has something to do with my system files being corrupt. The updates download fine and windows even tells me they install correctly, but on reboot I'm told they were not configured correctly and windows reverts to the time before they were installed..
The Sfc /scannow command always finds corrupt files that it cannot repair. Is there anyway to see what I need to replace, and any way to do so without a commercial Windows DVD? I only have the installation disc from when I bought the computer, and I have read that does not work...

I don't have anything from Kaspersky on this computer, the only security I use is Norton 360....do you think it may be causing the problem? I can't get it to not start up with msconfig, it starts itself regardless.

Okay I completely removed Norton 360 using the tool, and still no luck after restarting with a clean boot again and trying
Same visible issues, except a new error code on the manual update (80004004).
Anymore suggestions?
