Hi all,
I would like to know if my PC will be faster after I upgrade it from sp1 to higher! And also I was told that the Microsoft Windows updates just make your machine go slower rather than helping it; shall I now yes/no download the security updates for Windows vista and the updates for windows vista?
I don't know it was like about 70 updates or so.

Its best go from SP1 to SP2 then SP2 to SP3, but Windows Vista is only up to SP2.
My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

oh ok nice to know cryptodan about the only up to sp2; will it be still fast etc.. and what is the difference between sp1 and sp2 for my pc. and last but not least how come I'm getting offered a windows update sp3.

Are you sure you posted in the correct forum?
Are you running XP or Vista. As Cryptodan said. There is no SP3 for Vista.

I have Vista! I done the windows update followed all the steps on the forum. The only thing is it's 70 updates it says and now I can't deselect them.

First. The only reference I see to an SP3 is for Office. While Office is a Microsoft program, it is separate from Vista and not really a part of Vista.
My suggestion is to at least download all those labeled as Security related.
Do not know the specs of your PC or the programs you have loaded, running, but the affect, if any, from the updates should be negligible.

Ok I'll do that but how do I know if I have things like 'Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Security Update for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB979911)' and the likes; I don't know what all those things mean. Is it safe to say what I don't know I don't download?

Just for my clarification. Are you going to the Windows update site or are these being offered through Auto-updates. = You are getting a notice in the lower right hand of your screen.
To answer your question. The reason you are being offered the updates is because you have the base program\software on your PC. Example. You already have Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 installed. Windows Update see`s it. Since it was initially released Microsoft has found ways of improving it`s function and to stop\prevent any security flaws from being exploited. The same thing can be said more or less about Vista SP1, or anything else that you listed.

Your pc will run better and just as quick with sp2. Relax and enjoy.

Hi guys,
you know why I was all reluctant to update?, in the shop where I bought my laptop I was told automatic updates just slows your PC down more than anything else!
So I knew I had to ask here first before writing off automatic updates. So for now I'll go ahead with the critical/security updates.
I'll try to Relax and enjoy it audioAl!

Process the entire list of updates.
My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
