BleepingComputer.com: BSOD bad_pool_caller no safe mode

I left the laptop on doing a carbonite backup. I came home laptop is off. All boot attempts result in bsod in safe mode and all other options. I don't know what to do next. i couldn't find similar on a search of bc. Any help will be appreciated.Thanks!

Can you post the exact content of the error message?

Thanks for responding. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 1525, running Windows XP Service pack 3. The message is: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. BAD_POOL_CALLER If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation , ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to selct advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. Technical Informatio: *** STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000043,0xC90CE000,0x00000000,0x00000000 Beginning dump of physical memory Physical memory dump complete. Contact your system administrator or tchnical support group for further assistance.

Since psoting this I was able to get into safe mode and log on as a different user and run Malwarerbytes, Glary, and ccleaner. But upon reboot got the above message.

Bad pool caller is the result of a program attempting to do an illegal memory operation. This is almost always the fault of a bad driver. Try running blue screen viewer found here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

It wil probably say the kernal is at fault in the upper window but in the lower window it will list all the offending files. Look for the non-windows file. This will be your culprit. Then uninstall the driver and install a new one. If you still need help we will be here!

• The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results".

Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.
