Windows Vista Home basic.

I have done a search on here for System Restore but my problem doesn't seem to be covered.

I tried to make a restore Point and the following message appears:-
The restore Point could not be created for the following reason.
The shadow Copy Provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation (0x8004230F)

Any help that you can give me will be appreciated as usual.
George.

Have you looked at registering the .dlls?

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands at a command prompt. Press ENTER after you type each command.

* cd /d %windir%\system32
* Net stop vss
* Net stop swprv
* regsvr32 ole32.dll
* regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
* regsvr32 vss_ps.dll
* vssvc /register
* regsvr32 /i swprv.dll
* regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll
* regsvr32 es.dll
* regsvr32 stdprov.dll
* regsvr32 vssui.dll
* regsvr32 msxml.dll
* regsvr32 msxml3.dll
* regsvr32 msxml4.dll

I got to the line regsvr32 ole.dll and got the following message:-
The module "ole.dll" failed to load.
make sure that the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files.

More advice please on how to proceed.

go the c directory and try and locate the file by looking for it. If it is missing then you may need to perform a sfc /scannow via command prompt.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

There should be no spaces in your file names. Did you add them or are they that way on your system?

Sorry, my bad. There are no spaces. The one in capitals is not a mistake.

My fault for not proof reading. I need a brain transplant but will make do with a cup of (hopefully) reviving coffee.

Vista should have plenty of replacement files.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

64-bit users go HERE
  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Vista users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
  • Copy the content of the following box into the main textfield:
    :filefind
    ole32.dll

  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt
