Hey, i recently moved down to a granny flat down the background of my house. My laptop and xbox 360 moved down too.
I have no connection so i am running off the wireless from the backroom of the main house. I get low/very low.
I found a spare dlink laying around and plugged it in and it worked, the only thing is i want to put the spare dlink down here, which means i need an Ethernet connecting the main router/modem inside the main house to the spare router down here.
I is about 20-30 meters but i want to run it around the back yard so i was thinking of getting a 50 meter to be safe.
I am either going to run it along the backyard fence or under the grass.
I heard normal ethernets will degrade so i need a special outdoor Ethernet? and that could attract lightning so i need something else?
Can someone please help? I don't know much about networking.

I would investigate other options also

the undergroundness of the cable will be for about 3-5 meters.. not long at all. the rest will continue under a back sheltered area.
What lightning protection do i need?

That would depend on a lot of variables, those small cables won't attrack very well, lightning looks for a good ground.
Like a tall house or tree.
