BleepingComputer.com: Connect wireless modem to cable modem (roadrunner)

Is it possible to connect a wireless cable modem/router to a regular hard-wired cable modem to acheive a wireless connection?


I bought my mother an ipod touch for her birthday.She only has a regular roadrunner cable modem (not wireless)and i just was given two router-modems.


one is cable,one is DSL


#1 is a Siemens speedstream 6520 (wireless capable) modem/router with 4 ethernet ports,a DSL port, and a USB port

#2 is a Ambit (wireless capable ) cable modem/router it has a cable-in connector,USB,and four ethernet ports.


I couldnt really find a clear answer on google,but is their a way to get a wireless connection by hooking one of these up to our basic cable-modem (non wireless)??




ps, swapping the cable modem for one of these is not an option.i need to keep the existing one..

this should be relatively simple compared to the other stuff here guys....cummon!

Normally it isn't possible. I don't know if there's a custom firmware out there that will make it only function as a router.

#1 is completely out. If she's on cable and its a DSL modem.

#2 may work if you swapped it for the existing. Its a pretty simple and straight forward process, I don't see why she'd mind (of course make sure it works, and will work before trying to set it up).

No neither one will work, you will need to get a router that is like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124277

The reason being is that the DSL was made for a DSL service only, also router #2 is the same way. Road runner doesn't like it when you don't use the box they give you, tried that didn't get a good result. A router like the one I linked to is a good one.
