My old thread is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic349908.html
So my Speedstream 4100 is having problems, and I decided to get a new modem. I just need something that will connect the DSL from the wall to my router, nothing fancy.
My question is, will this one work? It's just the cheapest thing I could find.

You may want to check with your ISP on what modems are compatible with their service.
My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Strongly suggest you get a modem that is approved from a list that your ISP provides. Nothing like buying a modem and taking it home and calling to get the MAC address registered and hearing. "Oh I'm sorry we don't support that brand/model, You need to get a (fill in the blank) modem".
The Internet is so big, so powerful and pointless that for some people it is a complete substitute for life.

I have AT&T DSL, and couldn't find a list of supported modems.
All I could find is the modems that they sell on their website: http://www.att.com/equipment/accessories/gateways-routers-modems.jsp
And the modem that would work for me, the Motorola DSL Modem Model 2210, is $75! So I have to get this one over the $30 modem on newegg? What makes it so different?
