When I load my notebook, I get an error that I can't update my version of Windows Vista. It updated fine for over a year. The error code is 80004002, which looking online gives many various reasons for coming up. I posted this before with a Hijackthis log, and then other logs. I was told to not post the logs this time, to keep this in the correct forum.

I'm running a HP Pavilion dv7 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 2.

My last update was 7/29/2010 and my last successful update check was 7/31/2010.

Also, my machice runs very slowly (web sites pull up at an average of 5-10 seconds, and often there are stalls for about 20-25 secs), and I've run malwarebytes, windows defender, Avira Anti-virus with no detections.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply! I wish I would have noticed it earlier.

I tried the batch file, with no luck. I downloaded the Windows Updater as indicated, and ran it. It failed saying, "Windows Update Agent Installer Fatal Error" and "Windows Update Agent Installer encountered unrecoverable error." Microsoft and broken English? Ok, well... Any more suggestions?

It seems I've stumped you. As I said, I've checked the Microsoft pages, and have run several fixes, but nothing has worked. I ran the batch file as an administrator, I downloaded the updater, and it failed with the message I listed above. There MUST be something else to try. Anyone?

Running multiple virus scanners at the same time can cause issues. With Avira Installed Windows Defender should be unable to start and to be used.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.
