2003 Gateway crashed

Hi all,

My 2003 Gateway computer finally stopped loading Windows. The hard drive was clicking for a while and this became increasingly more frequent in recent days. We backed everything up. I have a Windows XP CD-ROM, but my computer's CD drive and DVD drive don't work (blame the 4 yr. old!). If I had the CD, I could try to to restore that way. Can I use a flash drive to fix what's wrong? And is my hard drive completely fried once the clicking begins? thanks for your help!
