Jazzy to be serious with you, any cooling aid you add to the computer will help to bring down temperatures.

If there is room with-in the case to add more 80MM cooling fans, then I would add one or two more.

I know this sounds extreme to most but I happen to have a full tower, with plenty of room.

The total fan count inside my tower is 10, this includes the processor's cooling fan.

The highest temp reading during the hot summer months I get using speed fan or WHMonitor software is 21 degrees Celsius and that is the Athlon XP 2400+ CPU clocked at 2000 MHz.

I have a cooling fan to which is mounted on the computers side access panel, that blows cool air toward the North Bridge chip and the Processor cooling fan.

My processor cooling by the way blows toward the CPU heat sink, not away from it.

I have notice years ago that doing this dual fan configuration along with the processor cooling fan blowing toward the heat sink is better than have it suck air away from it, this is most useful when the motherboard is vertical, not the case how-ever when motherboard is horizontal as it is better in this case it is set as an exhaust fan, taking air away from the heat sink, as heat rises in this type of setup.

So, hopefully this will give you a few ideas to try and as I stated, it certainly wouldn't hurt adding more cooling fans to your computer tower.

Hope this was helpful to you.

Any further questions, please feel to ask me.

Bruce.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Also, to follow up, are you still having game crashes after re-applying the thermal compound to your CPU?

Hey Thunder... yes that is my PC... Jon... Today my fiance and I took a part the whole pc and installed the new power supply (I guess I didn't need it afterall but it is nice and has a bigger fan - Nvidia LPS 650) We took a part the video card and turns out the dummy at the store sold me a cooler that didn't fit my card but I got to completely clean it out and re-apply that paste. I dusted everything completely and she is clean as a whistle inside out... when I turned it on the temps were (at first) 40C for processor and 64 for video card. Is quiet so far but I haven't done any real gaming or anything. It has been on for at least an hour now and temps on the video card are 78 and the processor bouncing around between 39 and 42. I was thinking about just getting a barebone with a larger tower and moving some stuff over to it so that I have more fans. This tower is kind of small (mid size) and things are packed in it. I guess it is time to just upgrade but any suggestions on how to keep this particular pc cooler would be fine (in case I don't get the new casing). Thanks for all the help... you guys are awesome!

Those temps, at least at idle are good for the CPU though the video card seems a little high to idle, my 3870 x2 doesn't even get that hot under load. If the guy at the store put the wrong GPU cooler on it, perhaps replacing the GPU cooler might be a good option. Perhaps something like this might do the trick to lowering that GPU temperature, which will also lower your system temp and keep your CPU cooler. Another option that may work is this one. There are several like this, just make sure its compatible with your video card, according to the specs, these 2 are. Anyway, just my .02 cents.

The 9800 GT is just a hot running card.
Mine idles at 75C, and cooling in my case is not a problem.

Another option, from JonM33, regarding the video card:

.... For the price of buying an aftermarket heatsink I think she would be better off getting a new video card instead. I found this as a good option for her. It runs cool and has a heatsink designed to exhaust warm out out of the case as opposed to leaving it inside.

It also highly advisable that you do not try and cool a computer with the case panel off. It will not provide a good tight seal that will allow the thermal dynamics of heat transfer work.

By this I mean that by removing the panel on your case you interupt the way the case was designed to move air from outside to in then back out.

You will want to adhere to this policy and general rule of thumb when constructing a computer:

1) Front fans move air in from the from over the hard drives to keep them cool.

2) Back fans work by exhausting the hot air and to keep the PC cool.

3) Side fan's also should act as the front case fans do.

4) The power supply is also an exhaust fan just like the back case fans.

5) The CPU Fan should be sucking the heat from the heatsink so that it would exit with the hot air, and the same should be said for the video card.

If any of the above air is disrupted you will get patches of uneven cooling which can cause issues with your components and provide false readings.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Seem to be making a bit of progress. Having looked at your PC it appears to have an area on the lower back side that will accept an 80mm fan. Maybe even a 92mm. An option would be to add the fan inside the case. Have it set so it draws air out from the interior of the case. It`s a simple install and will help greatly in drawing cooler outside air in, over the interior parts and exiting out the back.

It may actually help keep the PS cooler too.

Well looks like everything is normal now. I think after having installed the new power supply that has a much larger fan on it, cleaning out the PC of all dust in the process including taking apart the video card and dusting it putting fresh thermal grease on it and the processor cooling unit.... things are running smoothly (No loud fan noises anymore). I will still get the cooler for the video card now. For the most part even running my game the video card stayed at 77 (I would like it lower so I will get the right cooler for it). I would like to thank all of you for your input... it helped a great deal.

I read a review where the temperatures were monitored, and they stayed at between 71C and 73C, so you're not that far off.

Glad to hear that things are working out.
