Hi there,

I've got Windows XP installed on my laptop. It starts up fine and will initially run ok, although the cursor is a bit jerky. However, about a minute or two after my desktop has appeared the mousepad will start to become intermittent, and be pretty much unresponsive after a few minutes. The keyboard is also unresponsive with only a very occasional response to the Numlk key. However, if I start in safe mode it all runs fine. I have Kaspersky, spybot, and malwarebytes installed, and have found nothing running them in safe mode. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance,
Mar (writing this from another computer)

I would try uninstalling (via Device Manager), then reinstalling...both the mouse/keyboard drivers. Could be damaged.

Thanks for the advice, sorry for not responding sooner, I've been had limited computer access.

Not sure where I'd find the drivers, the only disks I have are the system recovery disks.

Also I've managed to get task manager open before it stops responding and it is showing between 70-100% CPU Usage, with about 30-40% assigned to System and the rest seems to be unaccounted for. I assume this is the problem? Any idea how I'd find what is causing this and how to stop it? (bearing in mind I only have a few minutes at most before I can't do anything) Or Am I best cutting my losses and reinstalling windows?

Drivers for any laptop...should be available at the website of the system manufacturer.

Ok, thanks for that. I shall have a look, see if that helps.
