I was hit by the fake MS essentials malware... I got it pretty much sorted out but any thing that is file related now opens computer management and my media shortcuts open vlc player... Is there a way to fix this easy or are there more files missing and can I copy them from another computer... I am running win xp pro x86 Will a "Windows XP Repair Install" fix this problem if no other easy options are available I will look up what "sfc /scannow" is i hate to say ive never heard of it.. running now.. cool tool...

Try running sfc /scannow it may require access to a installation CD.
