I don't think that I can get the adapter out but squeezing something. Heres a high res pic so you can see what I mean.

as you can see, I busted the screw trying to get it out. I don't think it's meant to come out coz I'm definitely using the right screwdriver.

Those screws can be hard to remove without stripping the philips head. After a few decades of doing it, then you learn to hold your mouth right.
