BleepingComputer.com: Laptop powers on for a few seconds and then turns off

I have a dell inspiron 1525, Windows Vista home prem service pk 2, intel core 2 duo
Until a few days ago, I had no issues at all, but one day I did an update of windows (which is a valid copy), shut the computer down and it wouldnt come on. Took the battery out and ran off of the ac adapter, still nothing, put the battery back in and the lights came on, sounded like it was going to boot up and it simply powered back off, Took the battery out again and plugged in to adapter, same thing, lights came on and sounded like it was going to come on and shut back down.

Placed the battery back in and the cord and it powers on.

Placed it in sleep mode and came back about an hour later, hit the power button to activate from sleep mode and it shut down again.
Same issues and steps as above. After about 15 mins it came on again.

Last night I tried for over 2 hours and it wouldnt come on again from the night before when I shut it down. Took the same steps and it finally came back on. Is it the, I ran a diagnostic on it, which all came back fine with no issues. What could it be?

This sounds like an issue with the battery, does your battery hold a charge? Also be sure that your power adapter is not injured or has been dropped or damaged.

I switched the battery to another computer that I have and the adapter. Both work fine.
Almost thinking Motherboard or does the dell have a cmos battery? could be that

They do but It is most likely buried in the case of the laptop. It also could be a motherboard issue. I will search and see if I can locate the CMOS battery...
