I have 2 issues I need to fix... I have a dell/winxp I bought awhile back
that came with a dlink disc, cradle and plug in.
I'm using that to access the airwaves, but it runs unsecured, which makes me
uncomfortable and I have NO idea how to secure the access.

Issue 2 is a no sound issue....no cd sounds, internet, games, nothing.
Under sounds and audio devices, "volume" shows "no audio device."
Under voice, I tried a test hardware and got a message, "your hardware cant play sounds".

Many thanks!!!

When you look at Sound, video and game controllers in the Device Manager are there any errors?

Thanks in advance.

In order of your questions, yes, one of the sound icons has a yellow
"I" on it. Right clicking it/properties, I get" Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
(soundmaxIntegrated Digital Audio..location PCI bus), device 31,function 5

As for model, I called it a Dell because I was told it was, but I see
no markings on the case anywhere..only a plate in the back that reads..
Gateway MFATXNIN ESX E400

Reading the D-link disc RANGEBOOSTER USB 2.0 Adapter
WUA-2340 Ver. 1.20

I'll check that Speccy later if ok. I have a snapshoot program...
what is it you need a picture of? Or is that Speccy a more detailed
d/load my snapshot wont get?

Hope this info helps

Very sorry, folks. I may have wasted your time.
In hopes of repairing my soundmax system, I tried
downloading either drivers or the entire soundmax audio, but all
I get are messages that the sites want you to pay for it or that
nothing is compatible with my system, so I guess I'll have to
live with it.

As for the other issue...unsecured dlink access, it's beginning to look
like I should settle for dialup. AS for re-reading previous messages, I'll
have to hold myself accountable as I'm blind in one eye as of a few weeks ago.

I'm starting to realize that this is quite an old computer, but it fits my
basic needs for now.

Sincere apologies for wasting your efforts to assist me.

Again, thanks to all.

Gateway has a deplorable driver search function on their site, in my experience. If you can post the PCI VENdor and DEVice ID's for the malfunctioning audio device.

Go back into your properties window where you found it was a Soundmax card. Go to the "Details" tab. Scroll down the list to "Hardware IDs" and take a screen shot of the window.

That will help us find the proper driver for your card.
