BleepingComputer.com: Glass breaking sound from speakers

I have been getting a sound of glass breaking randomly coming from my computer speakers lately. I have gone through all of the sounds associated with actions on my computer, but haven't found anything that sounds like glass breaking.

There is no other action, No popups, no messages, nothing visual, just the annoying sound of breaking glass. It might do it several times a minute or several times an hour. It happens whether or not I'm doing anything on the computer.

I don't know how long this has been going on since I normally have the sound turned off. I occasionally turn it up so I can listen to a video or music, and then wind up jumping when I hear the glass break after forgetting to turn the sound off again.

I am concerned that my computer may have a virus. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm running 32 bit Windows Vista Ultimate with an AMD processor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aside from this sound...any anomalies associated with the system functioning?

Any problem accessing sites...updating malware defense programs...updating XP...redirects, etc.?

Sounds like an IM such as AIM. If it is actually the sound of breaking glass...not just static.

Have you tried moving the speakers away from the computer?

I found the problem! Turns out to be an alarm sound from Digivue. It's a program that monitors and records video from two surveillance cameras I have on my property. I recently set up a motion detection area within the field of view of one of the cameras. When motion occurs, the program records about 20 seconds of video (10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the motion is detected). I thought it was a cool feature that I could use at night instead of recording mostly darkness and the short range of the IR lighting all night. The help files don't mention an alarm sound that also plays when the motion is detected. I'm still looking for a way to turn it off, but haven't found it yet. Tonight when I started hearing the glass breaking again, I looked at the recorded videos and found that they started recording at the same times that I heard the sounds.

Thanks for your suggestions. You did help me find a problem with my A/V software. It wasn't getting the definition updates properly due to a missing .bin file.

Visiting their website, I see Digivue has a manual for each of their several products. They also have an email address and 800 number
listed for contacting them. Didn't see a help forum.
