Just posted a request for someone a bit more familiar with Vista to have a look.

This may be a hardware failure but until a second opinion is had I not ready to say that.

Is the file name you downloaded LAN_Atheros_1.0.0.30_VistaX86.zip?
If so, you unzipped it and double clicked on setup.exe?

Yes that is the name of the down load I used. And yes I double clicked to unzip and install. It started to go through the set up and I get an error box with a red X that say's (Driver inf file not found) Then I get another error box after that saying( install driver fail)

I just d\l`d the driver and unzipped it. The .inf file is there.
Lets try it this way. When you unzip the file, if I remember correctly it unzips to C:\Dell\Drivers.

Locate the file created to be sure of it`s location. Then go to Device Manager. Right click the ethernet controller. Click update driver. You should have an option to choose a driver and a browse button. Browse to the location of the above mentioned folder. The .inf file should then show up. Select it and click OK.

This is a rough description. I have very little time at the keyboard of a Vista machine but seem to remember this is similar to XP.
