outlook 2003 Outlook opens and closes

When starting outlook , it will open then close itself. This happens after clicking the icon to start(open) outlook. Outlook will pop up on the screen for 1-2 seconds, then go away. I have opened task manager and it does not show outlook in the process list. After 2 to 8 attemps, outlook will open and stay open and seems to run just fine.
