Hi. My name is Dan; I live in North Canton, Ohio; I'm a 'Mailman' at the local Post Office; I'm 60 years old; and have been fascinated with computers since my Commodore 64 back in the mid-80's. I'm on my 4th version of Windows - '95, XP, Vista, and now 7. Google pointed me to this Forum as I was trying to find info on hooking up a 2nd hard drive in my Dell XPS 410.

I've added this question to the Internal Hardware Forum. Yep, I have a 2nd drive bay and power connector. I got the SATA cable I need but there are 6 places on the mobo for SATA connections. I've read that the first 2 should be for hard drives. right now the 1st hard drive is in the first, SATA0, and the optical drive is in the 2nd, SATA1. I was wondering if I should put the 2nd hard drive in SATA2 or if I should move the optical drive to SATA2 so I can have the 2nd hard drive in SATA1. One responder in the Internal Hardware Forum said yes, I should move the optical drive to SATA2 and add the 2nd hard drive to SATA1. I think I'm understanding that I need to change some info in the BIOS, or will my computer figure it all out on it's own? I'm not new to computers, but I am new to making changes like this. Thanks.
