When I open task manager (ctrl-alt-delete or taskmgr.exe) the Applications tab is blank (when there are open applications).

The other tabs do display appropriately.

I posted in the virus/malware forum and they did help remove some infections, however the problem persists and they suggested that I post here.

I have XP Home edition.

Thanks for your help.

Did you install SP3 recently?

What you are describing is a problem that is associated with the download of SP3.

Microsoft has a Hotfix which addresses this problem, you can read it here.

I had installed SP3 quite some time ago (when it was first available). This seems to be a new isssue.

I read through the hotfix information at the link you provided. It seems to be related to problems with the Device Manager

My problem is with Task Manager. Is there information somewhere that this hotfix may also address my problem?

Thanks again for your help.
