Mouse freezes when using a USB keyboard.

I’m running Windows 2000 XP Pro (sp3)
I’m using a ps/2 mouse and an USB keyboard.
Problem; Upon ‘Restart’ my mouse pointer freezes (keyboard is OK). I restart again and it’s OK.
What I have found: It doesn’t really freeze it only swaps from the mouse ps/2 port to the keyboard ps/2 port.
If I plug in a mouse in both ports, it doesn’t freeze, it only moves control from one port to the other.
If I plug in a ps/2 keyboard into the keyboard port, it works fine!
What I have done ….
Used a different mouse
Installed the latest drivers
Disabled the keyboard.
Removed and reinstalled the mouse and keyboard.
Updated Windows
Check for virus, spyware, malware, etc…
Thanks,
Joe

If you do disable USB Legacy support you will need to use a PS/2 keyboard to access BIOS.

I am using a ps/2 mouse and a USB keyboard.
I have disabled both the mouse and keyboard, as well as uninstalled, reinstalled and updated the drivers.
I don't see the point in disabling the USB Legacy support if I would have to use a ps/2 keyboard. Remember, everything works fine when I connect a ps/2 keyboard. (Even if I leave the USB keyboard connected)
I hope this makes sense to you.

I noticed this after running Speccy: (Under peripherals)
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
Device Kind Keyboard
Device Name Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
Location plugged into keyboard port
I do not have a ps/2 keyboard plugged in. Also, device manager does not show a ps/2 keyboard.
And so this leaves me confused.

Can you take some pictures of the back of the computer, and also can you provide the model number of your keyboard?
