My computer guy had my computer in a few months ago a told me there was a part that needed to be changed. He said they wear out. I don't remember the name of it? He said my system will be slow because of it. Is there anyway I could detect the part and change it myself? Thank you for your help.

Computers have very few moving parts that wear out. Basically only the hard drive and the fans.
Could it be either of those?

If the hard drive begins to fail you may experience lockups or overall slowness.
Please post what issues you are having so that we may assist you better
In the beginning there was the command line.

The blue round parts are transistors. They may fail but do not really "wear out" and are not replaceable.
The large silver thing is a heat sink

What issues are you experiencing?

slow startup, and some computer freezes here and there, also takes a long time to open programs. locks up and then eventually works, but slows things down and is annoying. the computer guy said the part would cause this. my computer ran fine before i took it to him for virus removal. then he tells me it's not going to run right, this made me suspicious of him. possibly trying to get more work out of me? i didn't have this problem before i took it to him, so i thought he switched the part. thanks for your help.

Have you checked it for viruses and spyware since you got it back?
Possibly it is still infected

I would at a minimum download, install, update and run Malwarebytes Antimalware and SuperAntiSpyware
Do the full scan with both programs. It could take a considerable amount of time so please be patient

Those blue round things are called electyrolytic capacitors. If they show any signs of bloating on the top (they will get roundish) or leaking fluid, they are bad. To replace one you need to know what your doing with a soldering iron. Usually people just replace their mainboard when they go bad or their mainboard and CPU. It's an opportunity to upgrade.

i already did the virus check before i landed in this forum, and it is virus free. is it hard to replace the mainboard, and what's the cost of a new one?

From your speccy, I can see that you need to update your computer to Windows XP SP3, and then update other things too.
