How to install a XP Pro OS on a Vista Home P. SP2 machine (Dual Boot) I would like to install XP Pro on my Vista Home Premium SP2 machine

I'm fairly new to computers a few years.But have come a long way since 2007 Thanks to BC which helped get me moving a lot quicker.But anyway I have a HP laptop with Vista Home Prem. SP2 on it.It has dual Hard drives 100GB each. I also have an external WD 1TB that I could also use.But my question or what I need help with is I would like to install another OS on it, Windows XP Pro that I bought awhile back but didn't know how to install as a dual boot.I planned to do this last year.But as we all know life happens and just didn't have the time required to do it,until now.

I'm hoping that someone here can help guide me through it.I will need a thorough explanation for this newbie :huh: Any Takers out there ? Thanks in Advance to anyone that can help me with this, Thank You ! Kind Regards !
1.) HP Pavilion DV 9230us, 17" Laptop, Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-Bit , Intel Dual Core T5500 1.66 GHz , 100GB Dual HD, 200 GB Total HDD, 2 GB Ram DDR2, WD 1TB external HDD, My Book Essential.

2.) Dell Inspiron 1764 17" Laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, Intel Dual Core i5 2.53 GHz w/Turbo Boost Technology, (3MB cache) Media Graphics Accelerator, 500 GB HDD, 4 GB Ram DDR3, Western Digital 1TB external HDD, My Book Essential.

I read that topic plus replies but it says there is issues WRT going backwards in OS that windows doesn't like to downgrade OS.I would like to have XP without all the issues does anyone have a sure fire thing to do this install Thanks !!

Sure...install XP first, then the more recent operating system.

The two use different boot files, which is part of the reason why it's so difficult to install XP after Vista.

OK Thank You Louis !!!!! I'll will read much more on this before proceeding.I also read somewhere that I need all the XP drivers before installing where do I go to get them Microsoft ?? This is an OEM OS disc that came with a computer. So I don't know what is on it.I guess I just need the operating system drivers at the moment. Thanks Again Louis Regards ~ John

There is really only one driver that is needed on any clean install...the networking driver.

Once the networking capability is established, users can then go through activation, then Windows Update...then worry about installing drivers for all the other functions. If the drivers are available via the Web...no point in chasing them down before then, although I suppose you can. I just use the drivers which came with the system/motherboard, rather than looking for updates that are unnecessary.

The default drivers installed by Windows will do until the motherboard/system-specific drivers are installed.
