My pc was doing fine then today I turn it on and "Insert BOOT diskette in A:" pops up right after start up begins. I can't get to safe mode, I can't do anything except enter the setup menu. I don't have any boot discs, is there anything I can do? Please help

Go to http://www.bootdisk.com and download the boot disk you need. Make sure it is for your OS.

When you have a working boot disk (Win98?) at the A:\> prompt type DIR C:
If you see a list of directories/folders your hard drive is probably OK. If it says "Can not find specified path" or similar then your hard drive may have died.
If you do see directories, at the A:\> prompt type SYS C:
This re-writes system files to the C: drive and may enable you to boot again.

Thanks for the replies guys, but how do I know what boot disc I need off that site? Do I need the mirror or the OEM?

Whichever your operating system is, you need the WindowsXX or the Mirror1, or 2, or 3. The mirrors are just alternative download sites - they will have the same files for download there. Choose the OEM version, unless you have a reason not to. The way I read it the OEM is the standard boot disk.
