You will have to use the product key that goes with the XP Pro disc you're using. At activation a unique activation code is generated based on the hardware in the computer you've installed the XP Pro onto. If this is not accepted, then you'll need to get the XP Pro from Dell, that matches the Dell computer, and activate using the product key supplied with it by Dell.

How to change the product key at the time of activation:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810892

Starting with the first Option ;
You will have to use the product key that goes with the XP Pro disc you're using.

I have the disc here, It is the borrowed one I used,
It says;
Operating System
Already Installed on your computer
Reinstallation CD XP Professional etc.

There is no 25 digit number anywhere on the CD nor the new envelope opened for the first time when I used it.

At activation a unique activation code is generated based on the hardware in the computer you've installed the XP Pro onto

Where will I find this unique number ?

Sorry I wasn't able to get straight back to you, I had to go out.

The product key relating to each OEM installation disc is on the COA sticker affixed to the computer the disc belongs to.

The activation code is encrypted in the registry during on-line activation. If you have to phone activate, Microsoft provide instructions to generate the activation code.

I think taking up Dell's offer is going to be the best way to handle it, especially if it proves necessary to re-install XP in the future.

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...

There have definitely been cases on making or utilizing copies of software as a backup for software that was legally purchased. I can't tell you off hand or give you a legal analysis. However, there may be an issue with user agreements being held to be more important, such as giving up your ability to utilize copies or backups without permission. I'd look into that further, don't rely on what I said. You can probably go to google scholar and look up relevant case-law. Microsoft's user agreement may or may not be important to your underlying question.

What I'd like to have is a MS Windows phone #, for XP-Pro, but as Platypus stated, he's not sure if one still exist for XP.

I think I try DELL since they have offered possibilities.

But - Thanks.
