Apologies of this has been sent. had a look and couldn't see it on the grouplist.... :flowers:

I have 90 gigs of files - an aviation game/program [Lock On] with lots downloaded games for it many gigs of avi/mpeg2 video files to transfer to another drive. All these files had worked without a hitch on the existing drive.

Both the originating and recipient drives have nothing else on them and I have done a surface scan on the drives and all is ok on both. Both are SATA II - one is a WD, the other a dreaded Maxtor [probably the last one i ever bought].

It seems that whichever program I use to transfer the flow breaks down resulting in some files locking the transfer flow [stops transferring] resulting in me needing to deleting that file or the system just stops in its tracks.

I'm on Win7 Pro
I've used Acronis True Image 2011 Home, Win7's own transfer facility, TeraCopy and more. All are failing me.

Do you know a way of smoothly transferring. Any advice is appreciated

The target drive isn't formatted FAT32 by any chance is it? Copy will fail if it encounters a file 4GB or larger.

No, they are both NTFS

I was moving 20 gb from external to my pc and it didn't work at all and when I went in safe mode it did. Give it a whirl and describe what methods you have used to try this please. (Windows FAST, Acronis, copy and paste, etc.)

Are these internal drives?

Some external hdds are formatted in FAT32, I believe this is what Platypus was referring to.

Have you noted if it's always the same files that cause the problem?
