I will try again later, not at desktop now.
Just a point I need clarified also. When I reboot from the rescue disk and get to the command prompt I am not at a C prompt. Do I need to be or should this work from the prompt that is there for the disk? I think I tried both last time but at this point I have tried so many things that the details tend to run together.
Thanks for everything to this point by the way!!

I tried again. First I typed: copy <space> C:\shdocvw.dll <space> C:\Windows\System32\shdocvw.dll after the prompt that came up when I opened the comand prompt screen. It was: x:\windows\system32
Second I typed the same command after: c:\
Both times I got the following message: The system cannot find the file specified.
I checked to make sure that I typed exactly what was listed in the previous post on both attempts.

I think I found a fix. I googled "opn in new tab not working" and came upon the following site: http://webtrickz.com/how-to-fix-open-in-ne...problem-in-ie8/
First and second method failed but the last one with the dowload for the registry file worked!!!!! Finally.
I checked as many sites as I could specifically rememeber and everything seems to be good at this point.
Will update soon.
