I am running XP with service pack 3. My DH set my computer up with an Admin and myself as users. Recently the computer has been running very slowly. When I try to defrag, I get this message

I tried running the defrag in start mode as the admin, but it still cannot defrag these files.
Any suggestions?

The Windows defrag utility...has never been devised to defrag all types of files on the system. This, as well as personal preferences of users, probably accounts for the fact that there are so many different defrag utilities available to any user. Some of these utiliities are paid versions (e.g., Perfect Disk and Diskkeeper, among others), while some are free (I'm not familiar with any free ones but Google can acquaint you with such).
Possibly worth reading, http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_defragmenter_utility.htm.
Worth reading, http://ask-leo.com/why_wont_some_files_defrag.html.
If you Google and use the string "cannot defrag some files", you will see a host of other users with questions about this.

You can always try defragging in safe mode via hitting F8 after the BIOS Post screen or Boot Logo appears.
