My mouse was working fine then I downloaded a program called DriverScanner and when I ran it it told me my mouse driver was out of date so I clicked on it to update the driver, Then I received an error message telling me the update did not work properly. The next time I turned on my computer the mouse was not working. Now I can't delete the driver that is dedicated to the mouse and install a driver that works. I don't know where to get a driver that works either. I want to install a generic USB mouse driver but I have two problems. I don't know where to get that driver and my mouse doesn't work at all so I can't remove the driver that is there now from the device manager. Not having a working mouse makes it impossible to try anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

You need to be careful when downloading drivers from unknown sources.

This is a major no-no and a good way to get a Trojan or virus, I can not stress this enough.

Here is a suggestion, go to Add and remove programs or if Vista and up go to control panel and programs and features.

While in programs and features look to the left side and click VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES (this is for Vista & Windows 7) Here you will most likely see the program you used for the mouse update.

Un-install it from there.

Most USB mouses will work on native windows USB drivers.

If your USB mouse has issues, try unplugging it from the USB port and replug it, or try a different USB port.

I would also do a scan with MalwareBytes to be sure the driver you downloaded is not malicious.

Malwarebytes Anti malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/ Download the FREE version, update and perform a FULL scan.

Bruce.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!
