hello,

i have a qsi cdrw/dvd 242 in my clevo laptop. the dvd drive was not working, however the cd was working just fine. i went online and found that other people had the same problems with the internal drive and upon investigation, i ended up downloading a generic firmware update, i think it was ux56. anyways now the drive does not read anything, it spins the cd for a bit then stops completely and i cannot pick it up on my computer. i don't know how to look for the original firmware, i don't know if a system restore at an earlier point would work, being a novice at this i am hesitating to do a restore to a prior point. is the drive dead for good or can it be worked on.

thanks
tony

Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

Was the firmware you used supposed to be for the dvd burner?

Bruce.
Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.

the firmware according to what i had read was to not only get the dvd burner to work but also would run the cd part of it also.
that is all i would be able to tell you. i am looking to see if i can find the site that i downloaded it from and perhaps give you a better idea.
