I am not sure which way I am suppose to explain this...

I reinstalled Window XP on my computer using re-installation CD I had got and suddenly my computer wont read the modem.

I was surprised when it wouldn't read the modem so I reinstalled the Window again.

Well, the result was the same so I simply got the CD I got while buying the modem hoping it would somehow help...

I am not sure which way I am suppose to go about this problem.

Just to clarify, the computer I am having this problem is newer one than the one I am using right now...

I have, or my family have, two computer and newer one seemed to constantly have problems.

CD I got was USB drive installation CD so it wouldn't have worked but I wanted to try.

I am hoping someone can help out again.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

Can you please provide us with more information about your computer like the computer's make and model number.

Is your modem a dial up adapter or is it a LAN Ethernet adapter?

Is your modem that you are aware of an add-in card or is this modem built into the motherboard?

Bruce.

Please take notice. Oreo and I will not be available until June of 2012.
Thank you for understanding my absence, it is job and college related, so all is good. If I do not answer your PMs this is the reason why. See you all soon!

Bruce.

The quickest way to correct this would be to call your ISP and have them help you set up the information for the modem to connect to their servers.

Here is your support web link for the Dell Vostro 400 desktop computer.

http://support.dell.com/support/DPP/Index....temID=VOS_D_400

Here is your owners manual. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst.../CR532A01MR.pdf

The manual may help you figure out why your Ethernet adapter is not working correctly.

Most Dell computers have diagnostic lights on the back panel that help resolve hardware issues.

Check those against the codes posted in the owners manual.
