hiya,
i have a windows vista 32bit and i turned away from it for a moment yesterday and it turned itself off (so i have no idea why it happened) and now i cannot get it past the loading screen...the very first one that appears when you turn on the computer. not even a windows loading screen. i can't override this screen and get it to go to safe mode or anything. i tried putting in a boot disc but it didn't fix the problem. i haven't been able to backup my data for awhile because i've been travelling and wanted to do it when i got home...so that was what i intended to do yesterday (and the whole reason i turned away from my laptop!) so if there's any way to recover my computer without wiping it i'd be quite grateful!
i'd appreciate any help.
i have an acer aspire 5535 laptop if it matters.

From looking at your respective manual...the Acer eRecovery function seems your only option.
I would remove the hard drive, attach it to another system and at least try to run chkdsk /r on it...then try it again in the Aspire.
I would also check the laptop for possible overheating issues.
