When you open Power Option Power schemes is the first tab at the top, click on this.

The first item under this is Power schemes, this has a drop down menu with the options Home/Office Desk, Portable/Laptop, Presentation... What option are you using?

I have been using the "Home/Office Desk" setting.

Having decided that this is another situation in which beating my head against the wall feels great-when I stop, I've changed my power scheme to "Always On," and ,in addition to monitor powering off in 5 minutes, I've set the box to go to "Standby" after 20 minutes. I'll not comment on the success as I don't wish the old jinx demon to rear its ugly head...............
Some mysteries in the PC universe are just too big to be solved!

Here we go again, Utilizing the "Standby" mode is resulting in the "Blinking Amber Power LED of Death" again, so, back to square one I go.
