BleepingComputer.com: Blue screen @ startup, can't boot Recovery Console from CD

When I boot the computer normally I get a blue screen with the following error code..

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0x837D7984, 0xF79C88B4, 0xF79C85B0)

When I make an attempt to reinstall Windows or using a Recovery Console ISO disc, after the message "Setup is starting Windows," I get the blue screen and receive the following error code.


*** STOP 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xf76130bf, 0xf7a5f208, 0xf7a5ef08)

*** pci.sys - Address F76130BF base at F760C000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

I've tried booting in every way on the Advanced Startup Options, etc.

Any suggestions as to how I can do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm stumped.

If you have a disk in .iso format, that won't work. It must be converted from .iso to bootable CD.

System manufacturer and model?

You have a Microsoft Genuine XP CD?

Well, I burned the ISO file (obtained from http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm) to a CD using the program ImgBurn.

I am using the Windows CD that came with the computer (Dell Latitude D820).

I'm not sure I completely understand what is happening here. You have the installation CD for this operating system, but it will not boot from it?

Have you gone into the BIOS and made the CD-ROM the first device in the boot order?

Where did this disk originate from?

From what I see...Latitude D820 has a restore partition and recovery/restore disks.

Also - I can boot the system from CD to Knoppix fine - I have saved files to the hard drive, made backups of my valued files. ^_^;;

Just trying to figure out a way to knock out this blue screen of death.
