I keep getting the following error message when these updates try to load. Machine was infected about a month ago but is appears to be clean.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982524)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 Security Update for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (KB979906)
Can this be fixed?

Automatic Update failing XP trying to update netframework and continuously failes

You've tried to manually download and install those updates?
I don't see an error message...

yes I have tried manual and automatic. the update icon is still sitting in the tray. I copied the text of the error message. So the window said the following updates failed to install. That was the list in my previous post.
I did run Ad-Ware earlier today. It found several viruses. It also said that it found win32.adware.abetterinternet. It appears that it removed it but did say a special removal tool may be needed but does not say what that tool would be. Not sure this could be related but wanted to provide this information. And I tried to re-install but it did not take and I got the following message:
