Hello all

I just finished with Gringo of the Malware response team and it was a great to get my desktop back on its game. The problem I am having now is with my laptop so none of the fix or the malware on there have anything to do with this.

I have Microsoft Office 2007. Its the home and student variety. It functions beautifully with one exception. I can't open anything with a double click. I can't remember if Excel is this way or not because I don't use it much on this computer but WORD definitely is having problems. If I double click on a document on the desktop or in a folder it doesn't matter I get an error box telling me that the file can't be found and an error code 800700005 then WORD opens empty, not even a new blank doc open. I can go to the doc from the menu highlight it and press the open at the bottom and all is well however, I cannot double click it anywhere ie desktop, folder, recent list.

I have right clicked and "open with" the documents. I have open properties and "run as administrator" the program. I have looked in the registry for the .docx file name and it is associated with Word. I have searched online and found this issue talked about a lot but no one is fixing it or sharing the fix.

I can live without the fix but it is annoying not to have the double click available. :flowers: I suspect there is a registry entry to fix but I am not sure which or what to change.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Reinstall office completely, that'll probably do the trick.
I like to think I know a bit about computers, I apologize if my advice is not sound or clear. I try my best to give good answers.

Thanks TimyH for the response. I live in South America and I think we inadvertently stored the discs before moving. My concern as well is that this happened out of the blue, one day all is fine and the next I can't double click. I need a solution better than having to re-install this suite every time this happens. I can't tell if this is an office problem or an OS problem. I have seen this same issue discussed on forums everywhere but no one is sharing the real fix. I see several places mentioning adjusting the registry but there are no 1,2,3's on how or what.

Thanks Paraguay K
