Bleeping Computer New User Orientation Area

Hello and welcome to BleepingComputer.com. My name is Grinler and I am one of the admins here at BC. I will be your guide for this visit to the New User Orientation Area. Please sit back and enjoy the ride while I give a brief tour of the site.

Before we begin, I think it is important for you to understand a little bit about Bleeping Computer and why it was created. As the computer geek among my friends and family I am always the one called upon to help them with their computer problems and questions. Over time, I started to wonder why these people do not make an effort to learn this information on their own. While doing research, I found that there was just not enough easy to understand information available to a beginning computer user. With that in mind I created Bleeping Computer as a place to interact with your peers and get free easy to understand support.

Now that the boring part is over lets take a quick tour. Bleeping Computer is composed of different sections, each with their own purpose. I will, on this tour, provide brief descriptions of the various sections and what they are for.

Forums

The first stop on our tour are the forums. The forums are one of the frequently visisted locations at BC. It is here that you can ask for support from other members and provide help if you have the knowledge. For those who just want to chit chat with the other members we offer forums devoted to general conversation and forums games.

Any visitor to the site can read the topic in the forums, but only registered members may post replies or create new topics. For more information on how to create a new topic or post to an existing one, you should visit these links:

Spyware, Virus, Trojan, Worm, Popup Removal

BC also offers extensive support in our forums for removing malware from your computer. To get started removing infections from your computer you should read the following topic:

Spyware and Virus Removal Self-Help Guides

The Virus Removal Self-Help Guides section provides a large repository of self-help guides for removing various viruses and computer infections. It also includes guides on how to use various tools such as MalwareBytes', SuperAntiSpyware, and ComboFix.

Tutorials

Our next stop is the Tutorial section. This part of the site contains easy to understand tutorials on various computer tasks and concepts. These tutorials were created from the ground up to be extremely easy to understand by users of any experience level. So if you are here to learn how to perform specific tasks or to learn some basic computing concepts, then the Tutorial section is for you.

Startup Database

The Windows Startup Programs Database is a large list of programs that are known to start up automatically when Windows starts. You can use this list to optimize your computer so that only the necessary programs are starting up so that you do not waste valuable resources. For a detailed tutorial on how to use the startup database, you can visit this link:

Uninstall List

The Uninstall List contains a list of entries that can appear in your Add or Remove Programs or Uninstall Program control panel. These programs can be unwanted programs, and thus should be uninstalled, or for legitimate programs that you may want to leave installed. For most applications, you can remove the software using the Add or Remove Programs or Uninstall Program control panel. Malware related programs, though, may add these entries to appear legitimate and are not able to be uninstalled using this method. This database will allow you to determine if an entry in your Add or Removal Programs or Uninstall Programs list should be uninstalled.

For a guide on on how to uninstall a program in Windows, you can visit this link:

Glossary

If you are here to learn new computer terms and what they mean, then our Computer Glossary may be what you are looking for. Our computer glossary contains hundreds of computer terms and their definitions.

Resources

The Resources section is devoted to links to various off-site resources that we feel are valuable to our members and guests. These resources range from spyware removal resources, free quality software, and support sites and numbers for many computer manufacturers.

We have now come to the end of our tour. Do not forget to visit the New User Orientation Area for more information and answers to commonly asked questions on the site.
